Cone-beam CT (CBCT) is a computed tomography technique that utilizes a cone-shaped X-ray beam to acquire three-dimensional data of an object. Unlike conventional fan-beam methods that scan slice-by-slice, CBCT captures the entire volume of interest in a single rotation using a 2D Flat Panel Detector (FPD).

Key Characteristics

  • Rapid Data Acquisition: The ability to capture volumetric data in one rotation significantly reduces scanning time.
  • High Resolution: When paired with high-performance FPDs, CBCT delivers detailed 3D images suitable for industrial inspection.
  • Artifacts: Due to the beam geometry, specific distortions known as "cone-beam artifacts" (Feldkamp artifacts) may occur, particularly in the outer regions of the image volume.
