STL is a file format that represents the surface geometry of a 3D object using a triangular mesh. Originally developed for stereolithography, it is widely used in additive manufacturing, 3D printing, and Computer-Aided Design (CAD).
In X-ray CT applications, volumetric data acquired from a scan is often converted into STL format. This allows the surface geometry of the scanned object to be exported for reverse engineering, dimensional analysis against CAD models, or 3D printing.
