Three principles of radiation protection

  1. Keep as much distance as possible between yourself and the source of X-rays
  2. Keep the exposure time as short as possible.
  3. Place a shield between the source of X-rays and any people nearby.

1. Keep as much distance as possible between yourself and the source of X-rays (which are attenuated in inverse proportion to the square of the distance).

X-rays are attenuated in inverse proportion to the square of the distance. In other words, it is important for you to immediately move away when there is a risk of X-ray leakage or risk of radiation exposure. Secure an area of sufficient distance from the source of X-rays, and restrict access to only essential personnel by surrounding the system unit with rope or by placing stickers on the floor.

2. Keep the exposure time as short as possible.

A method for measuring radiation: Survey meters and pocket dosimeters are used to monitor X-ray dose.

Survey meters

Radiation dose is measured by pointing the tip of the detector toward the location you want to measure.

This is the picture of a survey meter.

Pocket dosimeters

Pocket dosimeters are used by placing them in the user's pocket (in the chest/abdomen area). They indicate how much radiation an individual receives at any time.

3. Place a shield between the source of X-rays and any people nearby.

X-rays are attenuated as they pass through substances. The amount of attenuation depends on the substance. For substances of the same thickness, heavy metals with large atomic numbers have a higher shielding effect. For substances with the same specific gravity, the substance with the greater thickness has a higher shielding effect. Lead is commonly used as a shield.

X-Ray Systems from Matsusada Precision Incorporate Safety Measures Based on These Three Principles of Radiation Protection

Low leakage X-ray dose

All our products are shielded with lead.

Auto-off function

To prevent accidents due to a worker forgetting to turn off the X-rays, the X-rays are automatically stopped when the set time elapses. A time of up to 60 minutes can be set.

Interlock function

X-rays are stopped the moment the door is opened.

Emergency stop function

The X-rays and the stage are stopped simply by pressing the emergency stop button.

We also offer shielding partitions that are embedded with lead for protection against X-rays.
