RAW refers to an uncompressed file format containing unprocessed data directly from an image sensor, such as an X-ray flat panel detector. Unlike standard monitors which typically display 8-bit grayscale, X-ray detectors capture images with a much higher dynamic range (often 14-bit or 16-bit). Saving images in RAW format preserves this full tonal information, enabling precise post-processing and analysis to identify subtle defects.
