Solar inverter, also known as a photovoltaic (PV) inverter or Power Conditioning System (PCS), is a critical component that converts direct current (DC) electricity into alternating current (AC). Primarily used in residential settings like houses and apartment complexes, these inverters convert the DC power generated from sources such as solar panels (photovoltaic cells) and fuel cells into AC power suitable for household appliances.

The power generated by photovoltaic cells fluctuates with changing weather conditions, leading to an unstable output. A key function of the solar inverter is to stabilize this power supply. Additionally, many inverters are equipped with Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), a technology that continuously adjusts the electrical operating point of the solar panels to maximize the energy harvested.

Modern solar inverters also incorporate features like Fault Ride Through (FRT), which ensures they remain connected and operational during minor grid disturbances, such as voltage sags. Furthermore, recent advancements have led to the development of hybrid inverters. These devices support the integration of battery storage, enabling systems to operate partially off-grid and provide backup power.
