Ozone (O3) is an allotrope of oxygen consisting of three oxygen atoms bonded together. It is widely used for sterilization and deodorization due to its strong oxidizing properties.
When ozone comes into contact with bacteria, viruses, or organic matter, it oxidizes the target substances and reverts to oxygen. This characteristic makes ozone ideal for sterilizing medical equipment without leaving toxic residues. It is also widely used in industrial settings for the oxidation treatment of inorganic materials.
Although effective, ozone has a distinctive odor and can be harmful if inhaled in high concentrations. Therefore, strict safety standards regulate ozone levels in applications such as sterilization to ensure operator safety.
Ozone generators typically employ a silent discharge method. By applying high voltage across electrodes in an oxygen-rich environment, the discharge creates high-energy electrons that split oxygen molecules (O2) into individual atoms. These highly reactive atoms then combine with other oxygen molecules to form ozone (O3).
Established in 1978, Matsusada Precision provides a comprehensive lineup of reliable high-voltage power supplies. We offer solutions ranging from compact modules for integration into ozone generators to benchtop and rack-mount units for research and development.
