An X-ray tube is a vacuum tube that generates X-rays. In order to generate X-rays, two types of power supplies are needed, one is the filament power supply for heating the filament and the other is high voltage power supply to hit the thermal electrons generated by the filament on the anode target. The X-ray energy is proportional to the tube current of the X-ray tube, which is equal to the square of the tube voltage. In fact, only less than 1% of X-rays are generated and most of them are thermal energy.

X-ray tubes can be classified into two types: sealed and open tubes. Sealed X-ray tubes are further divided into fixed-anode and rotating-anode X-ray tubes. In addition to medical X-ray and CT equipment, X-ray tubes are widely used for such as industrial non-destructive testing equipment and analytical equipment. In the field of non-destructive testing, a microfocus X-ray tube is used for higher resolution inspection.
